Friends, Old and New

Today we met our dear ole friends Gloria & Bill for lunch in Elk Grove, CA. Not far from my son’s house.  We met Gloria and Bill 38 years ago when we moved into our house. We were both young couples at that time when we met and besides being our neighbor’s we became friends.  We watched each other’s children grow up, experienced the joy of having grandchildren around the same time, and we shared many good times.  About a year or so ago Bill decided to retire and they moved to Northern California to be closer to their grandkids.  I was truly happy for them to be able to live closer to their kids, but I sure do miss them not being one house up from me anymore.

What’s nice about having good friends you’ve known for so long, and have shared life’s experiences with, no matter how much time goes by in between visits, you know you can just be yourself and they love you anyway… warts and all.

After lunch we returned back to John’s house. They had a few of their friends over and John barbequed turkey burgers that Lindsay had made, along with some other good fix-in’s and an incredibly delicious ice cream cake!  I enjoyed meeting their friends and appreciated their youthfulness.  I was melancholy when I had to say goodbye to John.  I love him so much!
